1. How fit should I be for a Spiti trip? As you will be riding on a very high altitude you should be aware of the weather condition and also take care of your health. You should keep in mind that cardio exercises are your real friends for few days. The air is very thing at high altitude regions like Chandratal, and Neighbouring Villages so if you keep yourself fit by doing some cardio exercises it will be easier for you there. 2. Is it very cold in Spiti ? Yes it’s very cold, extremely cold. When you will reach certain places of Spiti the air will get thinner here and you will start to feel colder. Eventhough you will be covered with jackets the cold can be unbearable. So it is advisable that you wear warmers inside because Spiti winters are extremely cold. 3. What kind of clothing is required for the trip? While you are traveling to Spiti always be prepared for the cold which you are going to face here. Make sure you cross check the list of all the essentials things you must carry for Spiti. You also might be facing a zero degree temperature along with windy conditions. So carry woolen clothing with which should include:
  • Woolen Cap
  • Gloves
  • Warm & wind proof jacket
4. Will there be any lack of oxygen in Spiti? Anybody who is travelling 10,000 above sea level will find difficulty in breathing or is likely to fall prey to altitude sickness. It happens due to low level of atmospheric oxygen. 5. What are the symptoms of High Altitude sickness and How long does it take to get acclimatize in Spiti? When you are in Spiti the most common problem faced by the people here are loss of appetite, acute mountain sickness, nausea, fatigue, insomnia, nose bleeding, shortness of breath and drowsiness. These are the most common symptoms of High Altitude Sickness. The best way to get acclimatize in Spiti is a natural rest for at least 48 hours 6. How often can I recharge my electronic equipment? You can recharge your electronics through power outlets on the days we have hotel accommodation. Note that in India, the power mains run at 220v. Most modern electronic device chargers support both 110v and 220v but do check each charger / device in advance since 110v chargers and devices will not work without a special adapter. The standard plug socket is also of a different kind. You will need to get converter plugs to enable your chargers and devices to plug into standard Indian wall sockets. While we are camping, you can recharge your equipment using the 12v DC connection in our back-up vehicles. Note that you will need 12v car chargers for your equipment in this case. 7. What about internet access? You will have access to the internet in major town and cities, but in remote regions of Himalayas you will have zero access. 8. Do I need to carry medicines? How fast will I be riding a motorcycle during the tour? You would not be riding at more than 30-40 mph (60-70 kph) on any given day. Apart from the obvious safety reasons, we advocate riding slow for you to enjoy and absorb the landscape. 11. Do I need to carry medicines? You should carry the medicines you have to take for your present medical condition. We would be carrying general medicines for basic illnesses. 12. What happens in case of unforeseen situations such as landslides, bad weather etc? After judging the situation on the ground, the Road Captain will take a call on the alternate route.
