Lohajung, a peaceful Himalayan village in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is the starting point and official base camp of the Brahmatal Trek. This is where your journey into the snowy alpine world begins. Lohajung offers spectacular views, fresh mountain air, and an ideal altitude for the body to start acclimatizing before the ascent.
As you move ahead from Lohajung, the trail takes you through forests of oak and rhododendron, quiet campsites, and high Himalayan ridges. Each day brings gradual elevation gain, giving trekkers the perfect balance of challenge, beauty, and acclimatization.

Day 1 – Drive from Dehradun to Lohajung
Distance: 393 km
Altitude Gain: 1,466 ft → 7,600 ft
Your journey begins with a scenic mountain drive from Dehradun to Lohajung, passing through winding roads, river valleys, and charming hill towns. This long drive helps your body start adjusting to higher altitudes.
Day 2 – Trek from Lohajung to Gujreni
Distance: 4.5 km
Altitude: 7,600 ft → 9,200 ft
The trek begins with a gradual ascent through dense oak and rhododendron forests. The trail is peaceful, and the serene Gujreni campsite sits beside a forest clearing, offering a perfect first night in the mountains.
Day 3 – Trek from Gujreni to Tilandi
Distance: 3 km
Altitude: 9,200 ft → 10,495 ft
This short but rewarding day leads you higher through open meadows and panoramic ridgelines. As you reach Tilandi, the views open up dramatically, and on clear days, you can spot several Himalayan peaks glowing at sunset.
Day 4 – Tilandi to Brahmatal via Brahmatal Top
Distance: 5.5 km
Altitude: 10,495 ft → 10,190 ft (via 12,250 ft)
This is one of the most exciting and scenic days of the trek. You climb up to Brahmatal Top (12,250 ft), the highest point of the route, which offers breathtaking 360° views of iconic peaks like Trishul and Nanda Ghunti. From the top, you descend towards the frozen shores of Brahmatal Lake and finally reach the Brahmatal campsite.
Day 5 – Brahmatal to Lohajung
Distance: 8.5 km
Altitude: 10,190 ft → 7,600 ft
A long descent through forests and snow-covered trails brings you back to Lohajung. This is a scenic return journey, giving you one last chance to enjoy the Himalayan landscapes before wrapping up the trek.
Day 6 – Drive from Lohajung to Dehradun
