Your Nag Tibba adventure begins with an early morning departure from Dehradun. Starting early helps you avoid the busy traffic toward Mussoorie and Kempty Falls. Mussoorie lies about 22 km from Dehradun, and Kempty Falls another 17 km further ahead.
From here, the road descends towards the serene Yamuna River valley and the small town of Nainbagh. One route heads toward Yamunotri, but your journey takes a scenic turn onto a narrower uphill road that winds its way to Pantwari village. This drive takes you behind the Mussoorie ridge and into peaceful shepherd settlements.
Along the way, you can spot Gujjars tending to their herds of goats and sheep on the slopes. The terraced farms, rolling hill landscapes, and blooming Bauhinia trees with their purple flowers and camel-foot-shaped leaves make the entire drive incredibly picturesque.
After about an hour, you reach Pantwari village, the starting point of your trek. Once your bags are loaded onto mules, you begin the ascent towards your campsite. The route takes you through village trails where daily life unfolds beautifully, women tending to wheat and green pea fields, while most men work in government jobs or as local guides and porters.
As you leave the farms behind, the trail enters a more forested region filled with wildflowers and birds. White anemones are among the most common blossoms here. Bird lovers may spot species like jungle babblers, red-vented bulbuls, blue-cheeked bulbuls, hill mynas, larks, and various types of tits.
You reach the campsite by evening, just in time to enjoy a golden sunset over the rolling hills. The campsite itself is known for its natural abundance of fresh mint growing all around, perfect for brewing a refreshing mint tea. If available, the local kandali shrub can also be cooked to prepare a delicious traditional saag.
