History
Kunjapuri Temple, located in the Shivalik range in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand, India, is a revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Durga. As one of the thirteen Shakti Peethas, it holds significant spiritual importance in Hindu mythology. The temple was established by Jagadguru Shankaracharya and is one of the three Shakti Peethas in the Tehri district, along with Surkanda Devi and Chandrabadni, forming a holy triangle.
According to Hindu mythology, Shakti Peethas are the places where the body parts of Goddess Sati fell while Lord Shiva was carrying her dead body in his arms after she had thrown herself into the sacrificial fire. The temple at Kunjapuri, which is considered to be a powerful center of energy, attracts thousands of devotees throughout the year, with a surge in visitors during the Navaratras festival. With its rich history and cultural heritage, Kunjapuri Temple is a must-visit destination for anyone visiting Rishikesh.”
